6. What does this sign mean?

  1. End of all prohibitions and restrictions โœ”
  2. Road closed ahead
  3. Speed limit is zero

8. What does this sign mean?

  1. Cycles prohibited โœ”
  2. Cycle track ahead

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

9. What does this blue circular sign mean?

  1. Sound horn compulsory โœ”
  2. Horn prohibited

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

10. What does this blue circular sign mean?

  1. Compulsory keep left โœ”
  2. Left turn prohibited
  3. Left lane closed

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Arrow passes the obstacle on the left.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

11. Mandatory signs, which give orders, are mostly shown in:

  1. On the left side of the road
  2. On the right side, facing oncoming traffic โœ”
  3. In the middle of the road
  4. On either side

Correct answer: On the right side, facing oncoming traffic

Because vehicles keep left, a pedestrian on the right side faces approaching traffic and can see and step out of its way. On the left the traffic would come from behind.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Walk against the traffic.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

13. When parking a vehicle on a downward slope, in addition to the hand brake you should engage:

  1. Neutral gear
  2. Reverse gear โœ”
  3. Top gear
  4. No gear

Correct answer: Reverse gear

On a downhill slope the vehicle will try to roll forward. Reverse gear makes the engine resist that movement, as a back-up to the hand brake. Uphill you would normally use first gear instead.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Downhill park = reverse.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

14. Reversing a vehicle is:

  3. The middle lane
  4. Any lane

Correct answer: The extreme right lane

Move into the right-most lane (well before the junction) when turning right. For a left turn you use the left-hand lane. Cutting across lanes at the last moment is a leading cause of collisions.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Right turn from the right lane.

  1. Increase speed to stop the overtaker
  2. Not increase speed and not obstruct the overtaking vehicle โœ”
  3. Move to the right
  4. Stop in the middle of the road

Correct answer: Not increase speed and not obstruct the overtaking vehicle

Letting the other vehicle pass quickly is safest. Speeding up lengthens the time it spends on the wrong side of the road, which is dangerous for everyone.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Help them pass.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

17. When the vehicle behind you has begun to overtake you, you:

  1. Must not start overtaking another vehicle yourself โœ”
  2. May overtake if you blow the horn
  3. May overtake if the road is wide

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Frightened animals are unpredictable.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

A U-turn begins by moving out to the right, so the right-turn signal is used. Check mirrors and make sure the road is clear in both directions first.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: U-turn = right-turn signal.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

25. What is "brake fade"?

  1. Reduction of braking effectiveness due to overheated brakes โœ”
  2. Brake fluid changing colour
  3. Smooth progressive braking
  4. Loss of air from tyres

Correct answer: Reduction of braking effectiveness due to overheated brakes

Long, continuous braking (for example down a hill) overheats the brakes so they lose their stopping power. The solution is engine braking: select a lower gear before the descent and use the brakes only when needed.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Hot brakes do not grip.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

26. To prevent brake fade while descending a long hill, you should:

  1. Select a lower gear and apply brakes only when necessary โœ”
  2. Select neutral for a short distance
  3. Pump the brake pedal repeatedly
  4. Switch off the engine

Correct answer: Select a lower gear and apply brakes only when necessary

The engine in a low gear holds the speed back for free. Neutral, coasting or engine off removes that help and also overworks the brakes.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Down the hill in the gear you would climb in.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

27. Driving down a hill in neutral gear is dangerous because it:

  1. Overloads the brake system, which does all the slowing โœ”
  2. Cools the engine too much
  3. Wears the clutch
  4. Damages the speed governor

Correct answer: Overloads the brake system, which does all the slowing

With no engine braking, only the brakes slow you, so they overheat and may fade. You also lose the ability to accelerate away from danger quickly.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Coasting = brakes do all the work.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

28. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) works by:

  1. Preventing the wheels from locking so you can still steer while braking โœ”
  2. Increasing engine power
  3. Reducing tyre wear
  4. Saving fuel

Correct answer: Preventing the wheels from locking so you can still steer while braking

When a wheel locks, the tyre skids and you cannot steer. ABS releases and re-applies the brake many times a second, so brake firmly and keep steering.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Stamp and steer, do not pump.

Source: Parivahan LL question bank

  1. An area around the vehicle not visible in your mirrors โœ”
